The final year of university is always the most challenging. At this point, the typical college senior would have had more than two shots of espresso in their drinks, read the same ten journal articles for their thesis, or been awake for 48 hours. All they want to do is to either graduate or drop out, putting the least bit of effort in their assignments to pass the class.
If this is you, it seems like you have a case of senioritis. Have you stretched or drank water today? No? Exactly.
Senioritis, a word coined in 1907, pertains to the lack of motivation and overall decline in performance of seniors. They might use up all their allowable unexcused absences, submit works late, and not attend class at all. It may sound like laziness or being undisciplined, but if grades don’t define how skilled a person is, why bother? Yet deadlines and exams would call eventually—and there’s that performance pressure again. It’s time to burn the midnight oil.
During midterms and finals season, students might start getting sick. Other than the weather, this is due to all the stress, lack of sleep, and skipped meals. Even the most organized person could get overwhelmed by the amount of work that has to be done. With the winter cold and the disorganized notes staring at you, equip yourself with the Jelli M1 mask and keep the flu at bay. Get it in a bundle of 2 so you and a friend can stay protected from possible sickness. Taking care of yourself could also get things done faster, so it’s a win-win situation.
How do you get over senioritis? Well, if the motivation videos don’t work, think of senior year at university as the final stage of a video game: your homework serves as the training grounds, papers and quizzes are normal bosses, midterms and finals are elite bosses, and thesis is the main enemy. In order to get HP, you’d have to eat proper food, drink more water than caffeine, and hang out with friends and family. When all is over, you get to walk up the stage and earn a medal! Cool, right?
Senioritis may seem like the only possible explanation to your woes, but remember: your fellow college seniors probably have it too. The last stretch is definitely tiring and it would help to surround yourself with those who want to get studying over with. Maybe you can motivate each other (or stand in solidarity for all your troubles). You did not come this far to only come this far, so pick yourself up and finish that degree on a good note!
