For more than 2,700 years, myths have always circulated around our lives. Originating in Greece, a lot of starting myths were about religion, knowledge, and supernatural occurrences such as Pandora’s Box, Epic of Gilgamesh, Trojan War, and many more.
In the modern world, although people are much more logical and technology has served as a medium for people to be more rational in believing things, a lot of modern myths still exist and are still being believed by people. A lot of these myths have definitely guided people into living their lives in a more careful and respectful manner.
Yet, some of these modern myths sound crazy to be even possible in the first place and it’s high time for us to debunk them!
MYTH #1: Humans only use 10 percent of their brains. A lot of people believe that human capabilities are still not at their maximum capacity. However, many scientists think otherwise. According to research done by McGovern Institute of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), even simple activities like walking and talking require the human brain to use large areas of the brain. The 10% could refer to how much we currently understand how the human brain works.
MYTH #2: All conditions related to mental health are just made up. In older generations, it was believed that mental health conditions “did not exist” and that people who have these are just simply “weak”. However, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), mental health conditions are just as real and as concerning as physical health conditions. These conditions stem from irregularities in the brain, which is very much one of the most important physical body organs.
MYTH #3: Masks do not protect you from diseases. During the COVID-19 pandemic, one of the key items that everyone had to have on their side is a face mask, as we figured out that the disease can be transported through air. Yet, the effectiveness of masks were questioned as the number of cases spiked up along the way. A lot of companies, then, made significant efforts to produce a face mask that would produce the highest rate of protection that it could give to a person.
The Jelli M1 Mask is a counter-testament to Myth #3. Having a two-way filtration system with a 99.7% filter rate and being made from food grade polycarbonate material, it lives up to its promise of offering full on protection to its user. Compliance-wise, the Jelli M1 Mask has also passed compliance assessment from China National Accreditation Service for Conformity Assessment (CNAS) and Intertek.
As these myths have already been part of our lives for the longest time, it will be a challenge for one to unlearn them in just a snap of a finger. It will definitely require some time to remind themselves that these myths have existed to give justification on the things that the human mind cannot comprehend. It is important, however, to know that we should be responsible in believing these myths and not forcefully impose such into the lives of other people.
