Colds season: How to stay safe in this on and off weather

Temperature drops can only mean one or two things: it’s either you wear thicker clothes and more layers to stay warm or you take the risk of wearing your regular outfits despite the cold thus, getting sick. Unfortunately for us, the former does not really guarantee that we are safe from the cold and flu virus that has been spreading around in populated areas such as campuses and malls. Which is why it is necessary to take precautions to boost our immune system and avoid getting infected!

1.Take vitamins regularly.

At the risk of sounding naggy, taking vitamins is important. Taking vitamins help ensure that your body receives essential nutrients that may not be included in your diet. During the cold season, taking your vitamins regularly helps with your body’s condition by boosting your immune system, increasing your energy, and reducing the severity and duration of colds.

2. Prioritize rest.

Rest is not optional, but essential. It allows our bodies to recover and refresh, which supports both our physical and mental health. Lack of rest can lead to a weakened immune system,  declining cognitive functions, and overall negative mood. Ensuring a peaceful sleep environment and a regular sleeping schedule can help improve your overall quality of life by keeping your body well-rested and prepared for the day ahead.

3. Use preventative measures

While taking vitamins and rest can help in preventing colds, it is important to remember that they complement and not replace preventative practices such as wearing masks, hand washing, and avoiding close contact with sick individuals. Wearing masks, especially in high-risk areas or when feeling unwell, help protect yourself and others by reducing transmission of airborne pathogens. Of course, when choosing a mask, it is important to ensure that it is not just fashionable but also ensures your safety. Jelli M1 masks are reusable and have built-in and replaceable filters to ensure that you and others around you are protected from bacteria. (Fun fact: Using the Jelli M1 mask also produces less waste compared to disposable alternatives)

These actions, as inconsequential as they seem, play a big role in helping you stay healthy despite the changes in temperature. As the colds season approaches, take proactive steps to safeguard your health and well being by adopting these simple but reliable measures. Here’s to a healthier body, regardless of weather changes
