Colors hold power that creates meaningful impact in our everyday lives; may it be through fashion, cosmetics, decoration, lifestyle, and all sorts of things that involve the use of color. It usually adds flavor, sets tone, and builds visual impact/symbolism to the way we present ourselves. But, it can be quite confusing to know which color suits you best, especially with its wide variety. So, come and join Jelli as we navigate your perfect color match!
First things first, it is vital to know your correct undertone. The undertone is a subtle natural hue or tone underneath your skin’s surface which greatly helps in identifying the color that matches your skin tone the best. Using the wrong colors due to undertone mismatch will most likely result in appearing unwell or washed out.
In finding your undertone, the following tests can be done:
The easiest and most accessible way to know your undertone is by looking at the veins on your wrist. If you can see Blue or Purple veins, then you are Cool-toned. If it is mostly Green, then you have a Warm undertone. But if it is a combination of both, then you are Neutral.
To achieve best results, you should perform this test while standing in a naturally lit area without any accessories or makeup. You may use either a white piece of paper or a white shirt in doing this test. If your skin appears to be rosy or pinkish when you place and remove the white paper from your chest, then you are Cool-toned. But if it appears to be yellowish, you are Warm-toned. In the case that you don’t see any difference at all, then you have a Neutral undertone.
Another easy way to learn about your undertone is to observe the way your skin reacts to the sun. If you notice a burning sensation after being under the sun, then you are Cool-toned. On the other hand, if your skin looks tanned, you have a Warm undertone. But, if it looks burned at first then eventually becomes tanned, then you are Neutral.
Ever noticed how some jewelries look stunning on your skin and some don’t? Well, maybe you are not using the suitable colors correctly. If your skin looks more glowy under Gold accessories, then you are Warm-toned. If it looks better on Silver however, you have a Cool undertone. If you luckily fit both Gold and Silver, then you have a Neutral undertone.
So, you might wonder why it is necessary to go through all of them. Well, undertones play a very significant role in assessing your best colors and style. This not only helps in elevating your fashion sense, but also helps in making you stand out even more.
For Warm-toned people, a hint of Gold, Autumn, and Spring such as Navy Blue, Deep Ruby Red, and mostly dark colors are what suits you best. Meanwhile for our Cool-toned gals, the best colors that would help pop-off your looks are Summer/Winter shades like Pinks, Icy Blue, and Lavender. Finally, Neutral undertones look stunning with Neutral colors like Beige, Brown, and Khaki.
