How to deal with getting COVID-19 in campus

When going to campus, we are not always aware of who may be sick among the people we see or interact with as sometimes symptoms of the virus do not show immediately or not at all. Common habits when being in the campus is greeting people with a hug or handshake which increases the risk of getting infected with COVID-19 virus. Getting sick as a college student is not the most enjoyable situation. While you are stuck in bed, it is likely that no one is taking care of you the way they would at home, and at the same time, your academic requirements keep adding up. In line with the World Health Organization (WHO) regarding the prevention of COVID-19 transmission, it is important to keep in mind to:

  • Practice social distancing - to keep at least 1 metre from each other and avoid being in crowded places
  • Practice good hygiene - keep hands clean by using alcohol or hand sanitizer frequently
  • Wear face mask - wear face masks properly and keep it on especially in enclosed spaces

If you feel sick and unwell while being inside the campus, you must do the following:

  • Do not remove your face mask
  • Isolate yourself from crowded places
  • Immediately inform your professors about the situation
  • Go to the nearest medical facility in the campus
  • If your COVID-19 RTPCR or Antigen test resulted as positive, tell close contacts they have been exposed with the virus and must report to the clinic as well.

If you feel sick while being at home:

  • Isolate yourself in a room
  • Contact a health provider for assistance
  • Inform professors regarding the situation for validation of excused absences

If you know someone who has tested positive with the COVID-19 virus, immediately inform the nearest medical facility to be accommodated properly.
