New Year: A Fresh Start?

New Year: A Fresh Start?

2023 is finally here! From being stuck in lockdowns due to the pandemic, at long last — everyone is out and about. Time flies fast when you think about it. 2022 has been impactful and it made me realize a lot of things. My experiences from last year certainly taught me new lessons. With that, let me share these as we dive into the new year.

At this point, most people would say “New Year, New Me” However, I choose to believe otherwise. Despite it being the new year, you may always continue where you left off, especially if you’ve been thriving the past year. The new year doesn’t always have to be a fresh start. Feel free to carry on with what worked and learn to relinquish what didn’t. As days pass, you must accept that change is eventually needed. Growth does not need to be linear.

Are resolutions really necessary? For this year I decided not to make any resolutions. As I see it, resolutions only add pressure to one’s self once it is not accomplished. We all work at different paces, don’t force yourself to achieve those goals for just one year. But, if resolutions drive you to become the best version of what you are, feel free to make that 2023 Resolution. Just remember to be you and to set your own rules!

This may be cliche, but keep your circle small. You don’t have to be best friends with everyone. Don’t waste your time pleasing everybody, because there will always be someone who will disagree. Stick to what makes you who you are and just be respectful to everyone. What we need to normalize is having friendly acquaintances. Interactions with these people can lead to developed relations and even more opportunities

I hope these realizations made you reflect. Let us all welcome 2023 with an open heart and an open mind!

It’s the New Year, but I'm still the same me.
