Pretty in Pink: Coquette Girlies Rise

Pretty in Pink: Coquette Girlies Rise

Pink has undergone a major shift, or perhaps it is society that has transformed it so. Young girls, who were once shamed for choosing pink, are now given the liberty to be as feminine as they wish to be.  In recent years, there has been a conscious effort to reclaim the color pink as a symbol of women empowerment, overcoming traditional gender norms and stereotypes.

Pink is a color historically associated with femininity, softness, and submissiveness. This association alienated women from liking or using pink because women were taught that in order to be recognized as an equal, to be respected, and to succeed in life, they must be more like men. So growing up, it is not uncommon to hate the color pink or anything associated with femininity such as Barbie dolls in order to go against societal expectations and conform with the male preferences.

In recent years, feminism reclaimed and redefined what it means to be feminine. Now, embracing traditional feminine aesthetics is not shamed but encouraged. An example of this is the comeback of the coquette which emphasizes a sweet, charming, and playful style characterized by dainty ribbons, laces, skirts, and pastel hues. Unlike back then, today’s coquette is embraced as a confident expression of personal agency and confidence— a celebration of one’s femininity in whatever form they prefer, acknowledging the power that comes with it.  The little girls from back then grew into powerful women that ensured no young girl is limited because of societal expectations or shamed for liking what they like anymore— whether it be pink or any other color.

Whichever color you prefer: pink, white, or black,  you can slay in fashion with our Jelli M1 mask to match any of your outfits and ensure that you are protected everyday (Of course, I would like to promote our Taffy Jelli M1 mask since it is pink!). Feminism has come a long way, but there is still a long way to go for equality. As we move forward, it is important to celebrate our wins, such as the transformation of pink and reemergence of feminine styles, that shows young girls from all over the world that they have the freedom of choice and are free to express themselves in any way that they choose because they are powerful girls who can be anything they want to be as long as they will it.
